The Self-Absorbed

As discussed in a previous post I am writing about family dynamics in a family unit composed of a combination of low self-esteem, low self-confident individuals.

From my perspective the most corrosive personality type in the family unit is the self-absorbed personality. Very judgmental; likes to hear himself talk, dominates the conversation.  Especially gifted in the art of talking in circles to press someone into doing it their way. Can show outward signs of empathy, but will be quick to sacrifice anyone that will not bend to their will. This personality is oblivious to their own destructive behavior, and is at times his own worse enemy.  Over a lifetime he has developed into an overbearing, bitter, judgmental, and an uncompromising person.

There were some early devastating life experiences, perhaps one or all of them together, created this extremely fragile personality.  Being quick to overreact to the slightest perceived criticism, he is probably a borderline narcissist.

Down in my basement, lined neatly on a shelf are handwritten notebooks chronicling my life. After years of writing, the experience became more of a burden then an important part of my day so I quit writing. Five years later I took up writing again. This time it was in the form of a blog which gave me a place to hang out after I lost my job. From there my blog content morphed into writing about my general contractor experience building our house. As my life experiences grew so did my blog.
