Facebook Ban

Who knew one could be banned from Facebook?  The first time offender was banned from posting for 24 hours.  I had read the post, and it really didn’t resonate with me so I moved on.  That was until a day later when I paged down and saw two comments below the offending post siting racism.  Backing up I took another look at the post applying an ethnic filter. Sure enough it was offensive.

It is important to be made aware of offensive, hurtful comments or writings.  In the a fore mentioned case, I get it.  But on occasion it would also be helpful for the offended party to pause.  I realize when someone is worn raw from abuse that would be difficult to do.  But looking at the world through only one lens can be damaging whether by the offender or victim.

Living in the north country when I see signage that reads “No Color”.  I do not think color ethnicity.  Rather I know as a motorcycle rider it means no motorcycle club colors.  But on one particular occasion an individual took offensive having processed the signage through their ethnicity.  That was unfortunate because what could have been an informative exchange for both parties was lost.

Down in my basement, lined neatly on a shelf are handwritten notebooks chronicling my life. After years of writing, the experience became more of a burden then an important part of my day so I quit writing. Five years later I took up writing again. This time it was in the form of a blog which gave me a place to hang out after I lost my job. From there my blog content morphed into writing about my general contractor experience building our house. As my life experiences grew so did my blog.
